Redvine

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in silky, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is pale brown.

The large clumps of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of large, very thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are purple and orange.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, intense red blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like musk.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The fuzzy intense red skin is stretchy and sweet, and the soft orange flesh is very bitter and oily. The gold seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
