Hazel
Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its brown stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are wispy and straight, and split into many branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the huge, lime green leaves are finger-like with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Dozens of medium-sized flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with hazel petals and a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 11 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.
It has a soft scent that smells like mint, and it has very little pollen, but can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
The sap is edible and extremely savoury.
