Silverberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in thick, waxy, dark green bark, and inside, the soft wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small handful of branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of small, sickle shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of silver that gradient shifts to blue at the top.

In early spring, it produces many small, cyan blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like old shoes.

In late summer it produces small, perforated fruit. The rubbery purple skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy sky blue flesh is bitter and syrupy. The light brown seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
