Yewpine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for over 3,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 3945 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, crooked trunk covered in paper-thin, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground, with thousands of twigs covered with thick bunches of small, copper needles. The needles themselves are flexible.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, indigo aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
