Spiny Lime

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The very thin stem is lime green, and is covered in lots of rigid slate spines. The slanted, cream trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter in the middle. Its gray-green branches are very short and slender and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The sparse amounts of smooth-edged, broad, flat leaves are peach at the bottom and florescent red with blood red dots at the top. They are strong, and detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with violet petals that gradient shift to peach on the outer edge. The central disk is amber, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a star with 27 tightly layered, narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like damp.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the beige flesh is rough, and the cyan sap is thin.
