Copperleaf

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 399 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy-brown.

The small handful of branches are short and thin and are covered with large amounts of rough, giant, wispy leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of copper that gradient shifts to violet at the top.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, grey blossoms with 6 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like leather.

In late summer it forms small, vibrant red, winged seeds that float and land far away.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
