Turquoise Spire
Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 21 feet (6.4 meters) tall. The wide stem is pastel green, and is covered in brittle hazel spines. The smooth-edged, very thick leaves are a shade of pink-red that gradient shifts to turquoise at the top. Handfuls of them grow from the base in random directions. The leaves are frail, but detach easily.
It is very fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid subtle blue petals decorated with black lines and a bronze central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet with 18 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like lemon.
The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the turquoise flesh is slimy, and the slate sap is thin and can kill if consumed.
