Violet Hazel Moss

This violet or hazel moss is commonly found blanketing small areas On trees.
It is huge, growing up to 1.3 feet (41 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is slightly flimsy; it struggles more than most during dry spells.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release hundred of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
