Magenta

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in very thick, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown-grey.

The numerous branches are short stubs and are covered with thick bunches of huge, long, narrow leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either magenta or brown, with cream streaks.

In early spring, it produces several large, grey blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early summer it produces , perforated fruit. The soft red skin is delicate and bitter, and the very soft sky blue flesh is sour and savoury and syrupy. The caramel seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making strong rope
The stems are covered in large spikes.
