This colossal vine is a slow growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 1,963 feet (598.3 meters) and growing as high as 760 feet (231.6 meters). It prefers to grow on specific trees.

It takes 21 years for the pink-red stems to mature, by which point they can reach a diameter of 2.2 feet (66 cm) and are smooth and woody.

The thick, smooth leaves reach up to 2.4 feet (74 cm) in length. They are found in white, silver and deep orange varieties, and have irregular edges.
