Blackberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 68 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, angular trunk covered in knobbly, dark gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is black.

The abundance of branches are long and slender and are covered with copious amounts of huge, thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are black and bold red.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, white blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like soap.

In early summer it produces large, long, curved fruit. The hairy slate skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft peach flesh is sour and powdery. The grey seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

The leaves are overwhelmingly toxic, and very salty.
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
