Indigo Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in very thick, smooth, dark brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.

The branches are very long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of giant, perforated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid indigo or purple, with grey zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, hazel blossoms with 4 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like chocolate.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, triangular fruit. The smooth red skin is delicate and bitter and sour, and the very soft cream flesh is sweet and spicy and oily. The slate seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
