Bluefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a thick, straight trunk covered in hard, silky, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is black with white speckles.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of huge, finger-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant yellow at the bottom and sky blue with beige splotches at the top.
In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, pastel orange blossoms with heart-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a faint scent that smells like pine needles.
In early autumn it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The hairy violet skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft ashy blue flesh is sweet and dry. The slate seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
