Indigo Fruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 22 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in knobbly, silver bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of huge, very narrow and elongated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid lime or cyan, with silver zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces thousands of large, hazel blossoms with pleated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In early summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The fuzzy indigo skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The blood red seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
