Turquoise

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, angular trunk covered in fine, knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse patches of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with thick bunches of huge, wide leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are light brown and lilac.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, slate blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In mid-summer it produces , long, narrow fruit. The waxy turquoise skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft cream flesh is slightly spicy and dry. The deep red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
