Azurefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is white with black speckles.

The small handful of branches are short and slender and are covered with very large amounts of giant, wispy leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in brilliant blue, light red and azure varieties.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, brilliant blue blossoms with finger-like petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like blood.

In early summer it produces , slender, 4 pointed fruit. The crispy blood red skin is thick and spicy and savoury, and the crunchy lime flesh is sweet and dry. The light orange seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
