Orange-Yellow Spike Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall. It splits near the top to form 6 very thin stems. Each stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in lots of flexible pale yellow spines. The spherical body is grey, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible green spines.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with lilac petals on the lower layer and beige petals decorated with indigo dots on the inner layer. The central disk is vivid yellow, grow at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight heart. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like rotten eggs.

The cactus's skin is thin, the light brown flesh is rough, and the bold purple sap is thin.


It can absorb up to 13 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
