Serpentine Vinefruit

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in waxy, gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of huge, slender, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of silver that gradient shifts to aquamarine at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of giant, light yellow blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like wet dog.

In early autumn it produces large, wide fruit. The soft beige skin is tough and edible when cooked; it is salty, and the crunchy indigo flesh is salty and dry. The grey seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
