Knobbly Bellfruit
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in waxy, yellow bark, and inside, the very light wood is black with white speckles.
The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of large, 6 pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are yellow-green with blue tips.
In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, caramel blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like soap.
In early autumn it produces large, wide fruit. The soft red skin is thin and sweet, and the very soft drab red flesh is spicy and juicy. The red seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It blooms only at night.
