Crimson Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in fine, rough, light brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy.

The numerous branches are very short and thin and are covered with small bunches of small, asymmetrical leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are crimson and washed-out yellow.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, turquoise blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like cotton.

In early winter it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The leathery crimson skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft slate flesh is salty and oily. The silver seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
