Turquoise Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wavy trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, dark gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is black.

The abundance of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of small, circular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are gold and yellow.

In early spring, it produces many giant, turquoise blossoms with circular petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like varnish.

In late summer it produces small, oblong fruit. The soft dark brown skin is tough and savoury, and the very soft slate flesh is sweet and sticky. The black seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
