Mahogany Needlebush

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 54 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of branched, twisting stems covered in paper-thin, smooth, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are very long and thick with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, fan-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are hazel with gold tips, resistant and crispy.

It produces many bunches of tiny, slate flowers with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like ashes. In late summer it forms largelight brown seed pods.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The stems are covered in large spikes.
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
