This orange-yellow moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In bogs, and On trees.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is extremely resilient.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release thousands of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
