This magenta moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps In heathlands.
It is small, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is overwhelmingly flimsy.
When mature, emerald V-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release millions of spores.

It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It can flourish even in standing water.
The sap causes severe allergic reactions.
