Silverfern

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, straight stems covered in paper-thin, silky, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short stubs with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of small, spear shaped, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are silver with pink tips, light and fuzzy.

In mid-summer it produces a thick sheet of giant, gold blossoms with broad, flat petals. They detach easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like vanilla.

In early autumn small needle-like fruits ripen. The soft copper skin is stretchy and spicy, and the crunchy olive flesh is sour and very dry. The hazel seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
