Orangefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thick, knobbly, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is pale brown-grey.
The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of huge, umbrella-shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid grey with orange streaks.
In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, lilac blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rotten meat.
In early autumn it produces small, slender, 2 pointed fruit. The clammy orange skin is delicate and bitter, and the slightly crunchy orange flesh is salty and syrupy. The beige seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
It is suitable for making strong rope
The leaves are high in natural sugars.
