Indigo Starvine

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.4 feet (43 cm) tall. Its yellow stems grow in bunches of 8 and are thick with a curved tip, and the large, yellow leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single small flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 10 cm (3.9 inches) wide, with aquamarine petals that gradient shift to indigo on the outer edge. The central disk is brown. The flower head is largely flat with several widely spaced round-tipped petals. They are hardy.

It has a weak scent that smells like rotting meat, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
