Copperflower

Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This large flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its yellow or pale blue stem is thick and straight, and the giant, lime green and grey leaves are perforated with rounded edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 2 to 6 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 62 cm (24.4 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of copper. The flower head is made up of 10 petals in raised layers. They detach easily.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like lavender, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.

The seeds are toxic to people but not to certain animals.
