Skyblue Heartflower
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized flower grows up to 7 inches (18 cm) tall. Its gray-green stem is very thin, and the large, lime green leaves are wide with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
5 to 9 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 50 cm (19.7 inches) wide, with petals that are brown on the underside and sky blue on the top. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of 15 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like burning wood, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
