Indigo Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 409 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, dark brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of leathery, huge, thin leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid drab green or turquoise, with indigo streaks.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, azure blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like varnish.

In late summer it forms small, grey aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
