Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its gray stem is very thick, and the large, yellow leaves are pleated with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
Several small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with alternating petals of brown and black, with a sky blue central disk. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of several widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.
It has the faintest scent that smells like rainy days, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
