Skybell

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its emerald stems grow in bunches of 5 and are very thin with a curved tip, and the miniature, pink leaves are light drab green on the underside and are very thin with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Each stem splits 4 to 10 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 22 cm (8.7 inches) wide, with petals that are black at the sides and sky blue at the center. The flower head is largely flat with 19 widely spaced narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like onion, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.
