Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 49 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous wide, angular stems covered in very thick, waxy, light brown bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down to the ground that and are covered with copious amounts of large, long, tapering, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in faded green, blood red and bronze varieties, tough and smooth.

It produces a handful of medium-sized, gentle orange flowers with many layers of petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like old shoes. In late winter it forms medium-sizedcream, spiky-shelled seeds.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
