Crimsonfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 164 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, straight stems covered in smooth, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the edges and cyan at the center, flimsy and sticky.

In early summer it produces handfuls of small, crimson flowers with long, narrow petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like vanilla.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
