Indigo

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, slanted trunk covered in waxy, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, very thin leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to indigo at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, aquamarine blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rotten egg.

In early winter it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The rough olive skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the very soft red flesh is slightly sweet and very dry. The beige seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
