It has numerous stocky, slanted stems covered in ridged, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.
The branches trail down to the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of giant, wide, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and red, strong and fuzzy.
In mid-spring it produces handfuls of medium-sized, red flowers with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like old books.
It blooms only at night.
It commonly grows in large patches.
