Sapphire Berry Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, silky, silver and white bark, and inside, the dense wood is black.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of small, wispy leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are generally sky blue.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of tiny, vivid red blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like meat.

In early winter it produces tiny, slender, 3 pointed fruit. The fuzzy crimson skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the soft blue flesh is sour and syrupy. The black seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
