Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large caudiciform grows up to 101 feet (30.8 meters) tall. The perforated stem is gray, and is covered in brittle green spines. It has a wonky, wide, grey trunk atop a thick mess of silky, exposed roots. The branches are thick and lime green and are short and slender.
The ripped-edged, very narrow and elongated leaves are either light brown or slate, with turquoise streaks. They are rigid, and do not detach easily.
It is very slow growing, taking 33 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid magenta petals decorated with sky blue lines and a crimson central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 27 raised, narrow petals. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like rich perfume.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the pale red flesh is waxy, and the bronze sap is thin.
