Crimson Cubevine

This modest-sized flower grows up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Its blood red stem is very thick and splits into 8 branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the large, emerald leaves are stiff, pointed with wavy edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 1 to 3 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with petals that are cream on the underside and purple on the top. The flower head is shaped like a cube made up of 8 tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like paint, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
