Purple Trumpet Fruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 28 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, light brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of large, sickle shaped leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid brilliant green or cyan, with gold edges.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, bright orange blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like vomit.

In late autumn it produces , fan-like fruit. The smooth vivid purple skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is extremely bitter, and the slightly crunchy green flesh is sweet and dry. The silver seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
