Turquoise

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of tiny, perforated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue at the bottom and turquoise with lime splotches at the top.

In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, bronze blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a powerful scent that smells like onion.

In late autumn it produces very large, long, straight fruit. The crispy dark grey skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sour, and the very soft red flesh is salty and very dry. The white seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
