Caramel

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 52 feet (15.8 meters) tall. The thick stem is caramel and olive, and is dotted with small green spines. The stocky, hazel trunk can grow to as much as 52 feet (15.8 meters) in diameter. Its lime green branches are tall, rigid and upright.

The smooth-edged, spear shaped leaves are grey at the bottom and peach with black lines at the top. They are flexible, and do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 21 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of orange and grey, with a black central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. It has a weak scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the muted green flesh is waxy, and the aquamarine sap is thin.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
