Crimson Velvet

This large flower grows up to 5.8 feet (1.8 meters) tall. Its red stem is thick and splits into 9 branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the huge, pink-red leaves are very thin with ripped edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Hundreds of small flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with solid violet petals decorated with bronze dots and a crimson central disk. The flower head is made up of 33 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cup. They are sturdy.

It has a weak scent that smells like rotten eggs, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
