This average-sized bine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 48 feet (14.6 meters)0.

It takes 20 months for the moss green stems to mature, by which point they often have a diameter of 4 inches (10 cm) and are soft and flexible.

The pleated, waxy leaves reach up to 1.0 foot (30 cm) in length. They are found in olive and green varieties, and have toothed edges.

During late spring, the bine produces balls of tiny muted yellow flowers, and during the mid-autumn, after flowering, it produces a modest amount of small berries.

The pollen is slightly toxic to people but not to certain animals.
