Silvervine

This giant shrub grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for around 79 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several narrow, crooked stems covered in fine, rough, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of large, fan-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either silver or ashy red, with amber zig-zags, light and crispy.

In late summer it produces a thick sheet of giant, crimson blossoms with perforated petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like coconut.

In early autumn small oval fruits ripen. The clammy purple skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy pink flesh is sweet and bitter and syrupy. The cream seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
