Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its gray stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, lime green leaves are stiff, pointed with serrated edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Many small flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with alternating petals of yellow and muted blue, with a bright green central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 52 curved petals. They are hardy.

It has a strong scent that smells like meat, and it has excessive amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

Several parts of the cactus have medicinal properties.
