Orange Glowfern

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 59 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in fine, waxy, gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of huge, perforated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally lilac.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of small, dark brown blossoms with 7 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In early summer it produces , shield-shaped fruit. The sticky dark brown skin is thin and bitter and spicy, and the very soft vibrant orange flesh is sour and very juicy. The dark grey seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is bio-luminescent.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
