Silverberry

This big fruit tree grows up to 40 feet (12.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 85 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, silver bark, and inside, the very dense wood is white.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of small, very narrow and elongated leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid hazel with black streaks.

In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, subtle yellow blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like alcohol.

In late autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The crispy cyan skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy light blue flesh is spicy and dry. The bronze seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
