Blueberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 67 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black.

The thick clumps of branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of miniature, circular leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are purple and light blue.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of tiny, aquamarine blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like fruity.

In mid-summer it produces , long, straight fruit. The fuzzy green skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy light blue flesh is sweet and juicy. The olive seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
