Redwood Apple

This giant fruit tree grows up to 55 feet (16.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 79 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wavy trunk covered in delicate, rough, gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is light brown.

The numerous branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of huge, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are yellow and white.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, bold red blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like old books.

In early autumn it produces small, cuboid fruit. The smooth dark brown skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is extremely bitter, and the crunchy grey flesh is salty and dry. The green seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
